Being Human

An adaptation of the popular BBC Three series of the same name, Being Human was created by Toby Whithouse and developed for North American television by Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke. The series follows the daily lives of a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf living in Boston, as they attempt lo live out a normal life. Being Human stars Sam Witwer as Aidan McCollin, Meaghan Rath as Sally Malik and Sam Huntington as Josh Radcliffe. The series is produced by Touchpaper, Muse Entertainment and Zodiak USA with Jeremy Carver, Anna Fricke, Toby Whithouse, Michael Prupas, Adam Kane and Rob Pursey serving as executive producers.

A Season of Change

With the beginning of the second season the show is poised to move away from the show it was based upon and developed its own unique story arcs. At the end of the first season, Aidan (with the help of Josh and Sally) killed his old nemesis and leader of Boston’s Vampire community, James Bishop (Mark Pellegrino).

The new season is set to pick up right where the last one left off with Aidan assuming control over the vast Vampire community in downtown Boston. In the meantime, Aidian’s housemates must deal with the recent developments in their lives; Sally is stuck contemplating the fact that she may remain as a ghost forever and Josh is determined to find a cure to his affliction, so that he will not endanger Nora as they continue their relationship. Dichen Lachman will also be joining the series this year in a recurring role as Suren, a vampire who returns to Boston after learning of Bishop’s demise.

Building On Success

Being Human is part of a long line of shows that have proven to be successes for SyFy in the last few years. With the show returning to SyFy, 2012 is set to be an interesting year for the cable network, where it will join other returning series’ Alphas, Eureka, Haven, Merlin and Warehouse 13.

Being Human was officially renewed for its second season on May 17th 2011 after averaging 1.81 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic in live + same day. Almost 53% of the series’ audience is comprised of women, which (according to the NBC Universal owned cable network) makes the show “the channel’s most female-skewing scripted series ever.”
